The Sacramento Children's Home provides care to the most vulnerable children and families in the Sacramento community. Established in 1867, the Sacramento Children's Home has always been deeply committed to the care of children and families. Our community-based, residential and educational programs address the issues of children, newborn to 21, and range from prevention of child abuse and parenting education, to acute trauma treatment.
In collaboration with the Leadership Team, the Chief Financial Officer is responsible for managing the financial position—past, present, and future—of the Sacramento Children’s Home (SCH), and providing leadership and direction for both short and long-term financial planning. This position assumes a leadership role in SCH’s Executive Management Team and possesses the ability to promote and advance the integration of program and support services. In addition, the Chief Financial Officer is responsible for management of the administrative operations of accounting, financial reporting, risk assessment and mitigation, and purchasing.
Strong fund accounting principles; including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivables, payroll, and reporting. The ability to develop others in the identified competencies.
Extensive knowledge of consultative budgeting, contracts, grants, investments, blended funding, a regulatory environment, maximizing government reimbursement (85% of revenue is government funding) and thinking through a diversification of revenue sources and non-profit tax reporting.
Leadership skills modeling respect and teamwork.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High level financial management in a similar size organization ($13 million budget/200 FTEs) with multiple cost centers.
Government funding reimbursement experience is preferred.
Responsibility/oversight for an internal control system.
Extensive group training and presentation experience.
Successful experience working within a collaborative process.
Experience managing six plus direct reports.
Experience explaining complex financial matters to nonfinancial individuals and stakeholders.
Experience working with blended funding streams, the budgeting process and cost allocations.
Strong collaboration skills in working with multiple work teams and board committee;” brings in the answer.”
The ability to complete an overall system analysis and make recommendations for improvement on an ongoing basis
Undergraduate degree (business, accounting, finance or complementary MBA or equivalent desired).
CPA a plus.
Active California License not required.
